Map shows boxes, squares, or question marks
Use a UTF-8 terminal and a font that includes Braille Patterns
(U+2800..U+28FF). Known-good: DejaVu Sans Mono, Cascadia Code,
Menlo, JuliaMono, Iosevka.
Colour map prints ESC[...m escape codes instead of colour
Your gopher client isn't passing the text to an ANSI-capable
terminal. Try:
curl gopher://gopher.debene.dev:70/0/map.ansi | less -R
...or a client that renders ANSI (e.g. Bombadillo) in a real
terminal.
Map wraps or looks sheared
The map is 48 columns wide -- give the terminal at least that
many columns and turn off line wrapping.
"0 bytes" or connection refused on port 70
Some networks filter the gopher port. Try another network, or
fetch a selector directly:
curl gopher://gopher.debene.dev:70/0/map.txt
Menu links point at the wrong host
Server-side quirk (geomyidae -h). Fetching selectors directly
still works.
Remember: selectors are files
Browse .../0/map.txt (type 0 = text) and .../1/ for menus.
